On Top of the World

Friday was the spectacular day they had predicted with nary a cloud in the sky. We packed and jumped out to ride the Lift to the top of Whistler and across the Peak to Peak Gondola to the top of Blackcomb where the Olympic ski teamis training and there is daily snowboarcing and skiing. Needless to say, the view was breathtaking. We took nearly 200 pictures and several videos. Click on each picture to enlarge and get the full effect. Also, click to the video to see and hear. The ride to the 1st station up was 25 minutes.....then the open quad chair ride up to Whistler was a white knuckler. Sheer rock faces and deep terrain. You can see from the pictures. People SKI from up here and boys were riding their mountain bikes down the miles of trails from here. I was dreading the trip down worse when the lift dumps you over the edge and DOWN...... We did think of my sister, Patricia, and her love of heights. Yes, that is Sharon on the rocky cliff top who had to hike up to the tippy-top. We could have spent the day up there and nearly did. We came back across the Peak to Peak a second time. One of the mountains we looked across at,"Black Tuft," is a volcano in the same line as Mt. St. Helens.
As we headed down the mountain we could see the Bobsled and Luge run for the Olympics. Several people told us it was an interesting tour with the immense refrigeration system. So far the trial runs are setting records at nearly 95 MPH.
