Day 3 Mountain Lakes and Mountain Bikes
Thursday turned out to be a beautiful day despite the forecast. We jumped up early again (5:45a.m.) had breakfast in the room, donned our layers for biking, packed a backpack and headed out to conquer the trails.
The many trails are labeled like ski slopes as easy, moderate and difficult which we soon found to be in the eye of the beholder. Actually we did quite well on most of the trails experiencing only an occasional hiking rather than biking moment. Primarily, we toured around the lakes that are in the valley surrounded by the towering mountains. There are 4 small lakes and 1 large lake in the Whistler area. There are small day use parks all around and several had kids out learning to sail or canoe in day camps. With people picnicking, sunning and playing at the parks it took us back in time. We rode around 3 of the lakes and down to Whistler Creek. The lodge you see is Nita Lake Lodge where I tried to book our stay. It is beautiful but in a much more remote area of Whistler so I was glad to be staying in the Village. This week seems fairly quiet after the Canadian Holiday, July1st, but we can see a few more people coming in for the weekend. The mornings in the Villages are very quiet with the afternoons bustling with people walking, shopping and seeing the sights.
The ski lift map you see in the picture is the agenda for this morning according to our in-house tour guide, Miss Sharon. She quizzed and scoped out the way to get to the PEAK of Whistler Mountain. It is truly a Chamber of Commerce day today with not a cloud in the deep blue sky. We will ride up the Wizard open chair lift to Solar Coaster, across the Peak to Peak Gondola, then walk or bus across to The Peak lift. Somehow we will reverse all that and get back down before dark. If you haven’t heard from us …..we may still be up there! Send help…

Was the bike picture before or after your trek? Was this as challenging as it looks? Ruthie and I are together and thank you for taking us along on your trip. It looks like a travel guide. Continue to have fun and be safe. I agree with Ace. Sharon, you really should bungie jump! (Chris)
ReplyDeleteYES, just imagine your on the bachelorette or some show!
ReplyDeleteThe other Howell's are in Chicago on the other side of the US safe and sound and have had a great nights sleep, check our blog for all of the specifics on the flight. We will be in Chicago today and tomorrow. Beach today on Lake Michigan and a double dinner date in the windy city. I am actually pretty excited about getting to dine out somewhere nice tonight, Chicago has such great food. We have tickets to Wrigley to see the Cubs Vs. #1 St. Louis Cards tomorrow afternoon and am looking forward to this. Great weather as they say is the norm. in Chicago. It may turn out to be a little vacation after all. Mimi and Downtown Steve are in the park right now playing with parker on a blanket while Mom and Dad get a little R&R, he has been great so far. He did have corn last night and Erika had to change an explosion this morning that included full size kernals for the first time. Have a great trip and continue to update us. We love it. (ACE)
