Our First Day started at 4:15 A.M. as we headed out to the airport. In the air by 8:30 and a 51/2 hour flight. Flying directly over the Mississippi River, the Black Hills of South Dakota, the Badlands, the Rockies, Columbia River and Mount Rainier it was clear enough to see all. Mt. Rainier is the picture seen here with Mt. St. Helens close behind it. 2250 miles later we're at the other corner of the country. The first thing that hit us was the pleasant COOL 64 degree temps.
After settling into our rental ride for the next 13 days we headed north through Tacoma and Seattle to the ferry at Mukilteo, crossing a short passge of the Puget Sound onto Whidbey Island.
The short 15 minute trip and brief wait in the que line gave us a 20 minute power nap.
Whidbey Island is 52 miles long and is one of several islands in the Puget Sound area. It is well inhabited with beautiful water views and farms with cattle and fresh hay bales in the fields.
Wow, that 1st picture of the mountain is amazing!
