We did take an hour break in the Whistler Creekside Village for lunch and a cool beverage. We devoured the largest basket of Nachos that we have ever seen and we have been rating Nachos for years. As well, this village seemed beautiful but a very quiet area at the base of the Creekside Gondola. We often comment on how this area must really be hopping in the Winter months and will be particularly alive during the Olympics
In the afternoon, we watched the skiers and snowboarders return from a day on the peaks. They had been skiing the Glaciers that we hope to see tomorrow. They returned with red faces and very wet clothes. One Asian young man said it was very wet-water snow.
Ace, you and Michael would have never been looking for anything to do with summer snow skiing and mountain bike trails. I even commented that Michael may want to Honeymoon here, but of course he would have to try the dirt bike jumps.
Knox, we saw little guys your age that had been to Mountain Bike camp. They were in full gear, speeding the down the hills (past us) and jumping the curbs. That could be your next costume.
We took an evening short ride (30 miles) to a VERY small town of Pemberton. The valley area is surrounded by gorgeous white topped mountains, rushing white glacier rivers and is the home of the Pemberton Potato. The potato is the main industry, providing jobs for the local Indian/native population and a good thing because not much else is going on in this tiny quiet town. The area reminded us of the little towns in Alaska with many ‘first nations’ type inhabitants. Canada has had a ‘stimulus program’ in the works for some time building city centers and other modern facilities that stick out randomly in these little villages. We happened upon a new Bistro (preparing for the 2010 games) in this town and had the best meal while looking up the peaks and glaciers of Mount Currie. We asked our waiter if they even noticed the mountain looming high above them anymore. The spring melt of snow must create quite a show in the local rivers because we saw very high water marks that are flooded in the Spring.
We drove back toward Whistler at dusk.....yes it does finally get dark about 10:15.
A picture in front of the Gondola and didn't do "BIG RED", I hope there were no accidents. I believe Mom you should bungee Jump, you may never get to do it again.
